Areas of Practice

GENDER SERVICES

I strive to provide culturally responsive psychotherapy that is transaffirmative. I welcome clients whose gender identities span the full spectrum of gender experience, including non-binary identities. I can work with you to explore your gender and what interventions you may decide are best for you.

If you need letters of support for gender-confirming medical interventions, I am happy to help you in completing those goals. I take a collaborative approach and I ask that we meet for at least 2-3 sessions to review your gender history, your gender goals, identify diagnostic issues, risks and benefits of planned medical interventions and exploration of the impact of transition on important areas of your life.  I want to ensure that you have positive outcomes and high satisfaction with whatever medical intervention you are pursuing.

Couples Therapy

I have completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. The Gottman Method developed by Drs. John & Julie Gottman, is designed and has been empirically validated to support couples across all economic, racial, sexual orientation, and cultural sectors.

Some of the relationship issues that may be addressed in therapy include:

  • Frequent conflict and arguments
  • Poor communication
  • Emotionally distanced couples on the verge of separation
  • Specific problems such as sexual difficulties, infidelity, money, and parenting

WHAT TO EXPECT

Assessment | A conjoint session, followed by individual interviews with each partner are conducted. Couples complete questionnaires and then receive detailed feedback on their relationship.

Frequency | The couple and therapist decide on the frequency and duration of the sessions.

Therapeutic Interventions are designed to help couples strengthen their relationships in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and creation of shared meaning.

Sex Therapy

Because sexual pain and sexual dysfunction have many possible symptoms and causes, treatment varies. A focus of treatment will be supporting you in communicating your concerns and understanding your body and its normal sexual response. Note, what is normal for someone else might not be normal for you! Also, your goals for your sex life are important in determining treatment and evaluating progress.

Clients with sexual concerns most often benefit from a combined treatment approach that addresses medical as well as relationship and emotional issues.

Therapy often includes education about how to optimize your body's sexual response, ways to enhance intimacy with your partner, and recommendations for reading materials or couples exercises
